The Bar Poem by Barry Middleton

The Bar

The bar could be the church,
the workplace, the club.

We come here to be connected
and to remind ourselves

how separate men are,
how apart from one another.

We might talk of women, sport,
politics or even of gods

for these are all as one thing,
a point of focus

that separates and connects.
Just to see them,

or more importantly to know
that we were seen,

we come to view the others,
and invent their story.
