The Aerial Display Poem by Francis Duggan

The Aerial Display

Rating: 2.5

The crowd in the park look upwards and shout a hip hooray
At the passing of the Air Force fighter jets in an aerial display
And again they fly above the crowd to another loud encore
Eight fighter jets in unison and how their engines roar.

Don't ask me to feel passionate about such a waste of fuel
At such a waste of money in a World where men of money rule
In a World where millions are dying of hunger this seems all wrong to me
Their arrogant aerial display of patriotism why should I wish to see?

Thousands of faces look skywards expressing sheer delight
The aerial display of the war jets to them a marvellous sight
Yet I cannot share in their Patriotism or the passion that they feel
When such a waste of money food from the poor mouths steal.

The Government are behind all of this of that there's little doubt
Their aerial display of Patriotism they cannot do without
Each war parade and aerial display helps to keep them in power
And the flower of peace that died years ago may never again flower.
