Tears Poem by Hawa Joosub

Tears

Why are you like a broken tap
Continually flowing
And making a map
Marking the emotions that
Are stuck in my throat
And setting them all afloat
As much as I want you to stop
You just don’t
Why do you keep showing the whole world
How I feel inside?
You keep dissolving that protective layer
That I want to grow around me like a thick leather hide.
Why don’t you understand
That my feelings are private
Not for public display
But you just won’t go away
Yet
You are my safety valve
Forcing me to let off tension building up from deep inside
Sorrow, Joy, Hurt, Love
Pain, Happiness, Pride
And disappointment
You are surely a watery ointment
You force me to heave my tight chest
To relieve that unbearable stress
Flow if you must
But
I wish that you wouldn’t make my face
Look like such a mess!
