Take Your Heart Poem by Windsor Guadalupe Jr

Take Your Heart

Take your heart
With you
While you dine
And joust with
The utensils

While you skirmish
Through the vines
And bushwhacking

While you learn how
To hate
And love equally
You’ve a heart
And you use it
For
Assassination,
Redemption,
Deception and
Sex.

Take your heart
To war, and the rifles
Bow down and
Salute you.
An accurate bequeathing -
A contender in a room,
A savage time, the antebellum.

Don’t forget -
In death too,
Take your heart with you.
