Take Me Poem by Joseph White

Take Me

Take me to a place where the breeze is warm
and the child in me is reborn
to days of sunny skies after rain
that call to me and I am thrilled again
return me to where the winds wash over me
with their salty breath
that chilled and warmed at the same moment

The water birds are in flight
and some are darting on shore
they are large and they are small
they are white and they are black and some are gray
silhouettes against the sun filled sky
splash to the shimmering water
in search of quarry unseen to me on shore

The sun is brilliant with it's regal
and life giving rays
I cannot look into the solar dance
of sky and water
but I know it well and it has not left me today
now only in my mind's eye does it live

Late in the day the winds swing
with the rhythm of the world
as they travel from the ocean's
far reaches to run fingers
through my hair and carry
earthy smells to my doorstep

The salt, the soil, breeze and aroma
and the life past and the life present
are lifelong memories in me
and I am a part of them
I am reborn and refreshed
when they are remembered

A very touching poem. Very few events are described directly within this poem, but a lot seems to have happened by the time the reader reaches the last verse.
