Sun's Passion...... Poem by RIC BASTASA

Sun's Passion......

these are landmarks.
big boulders. frozen fossils.
where we say what we
did not say, what we could
not say, here is it.

the sun is mighty giving all
it can to everything that needs
its warmth and light.

one day, it fell in love with
a flower in the mountains. There
were so many flowers, but
what it could not understand
is his love for this one.
nothing extraordinary except that
he beats for it and confesses
his love for it, to such a shame
to the other heavenly bodies like
him.

this flower took everything
from him. Just the same the sun
is not consumed. And this flower
despite what it had taken
mocks at the sun for loving it.

what silly creature the sun is
it brags among the other flowers
and the grasses, falling in love
to one like me which cannot love
him in return, lest i burn myself
to death when he kisses me.

the passionate sun of course
cannot understand this very logical
refusal. It continues falling in love
until it burned the earth.
