Sun Goes Down Poem by Franchesca Mia Tortoza

Sun Goes Down

They say many dangers come with the night,
They say that the dark of the twilight sky promises fear,
Stories of ghosts and ghouls fuel fright,
Stories of spirits and mysteries that linger near.

But to me, these stars that light up the sky,
And those bright beams of light that from the moon do shine,
Stand for something else—something to remember you by
A way of recalling the times you lay in arms that were mine.

And at last, I see—there you are!
And all of a sudden, you're in my arms once again,
And I reminisce those times when you were far,
Oh! —How terrible it was, being without you back then!

A sweet kiss is shared under the watch of the moon,
And sweeter promises even are witness by the night,
A promise to return; to see each other soon,
And soon we depart, under the dim moonlight.

We both know someday this pretense will end,
And that our vows exchanged under the moon will be kept,
And that more time together we'll get to spend—
All this I think of, dear heart, when the whole world has slept.

And when the light of sunset I see,
Though everyone sighs, I do all but frown,
I know, dear heart, soon you'll be with me,
Once again we'll embrace—when the sun goes down.
