Summer Poem by W H Benjamin

Summer

Larks flying over the sunset bay
As Summer swallows whole nights away
When Winter arrived
Every breath was laboured
Trouble swirled in the wind
Though love were absent,
Like water from the desert then

We wandered on amidst the dry mountainous dunes
Searching for Love's sweet oasis
Once a touch
Once a fleeting Summer's kiss

Gone the Summer of our youth
And on to Winter's aged climes
The things we lost in time
Like bottles thrown in the ocean in heavy mist
Appeared like constellations lost,
Once far, drew nearer
Flashbacks, shining bright to naked eyes

The scolding moon high
On a sleepless, humid, summer night
To remind old souls
That there is nothing more to this,
Life, then to love, love with all your heart
Not be loved,
Though it were a type of bliss
