Such Is Life. Poem by Kevin Hulme

Such Is Life.

The dear old couple sit side by side
And petty woes to each confide,
The days long filling now at an end.
Now hand in hand they watch the Sun
Where like the Years their days had run,
And with watering eyes they so attend.
For in this park when blood was young
And words of Love flowed by the tongue,
Their courtship grew like the flowers near.
And by that tree he carved her name
To give his Love some eternal fame,
And pledge his life with words sincere.
The winding paths that stretch ahead
They'ed walk till late all passion said,
And kiss goodnight by the wrought iron gate.
Would this green remember the lovers sat there
Who are aged, infirm their lives in Care,
The haven of all such mortal fate?
Some children came and since have flown
Unto these trees their courtships known,
And Grandchildren play by the fountain side.
And now new lovers walk daily by
He inpatient lust she demurely shy,
Striding into the future where fate resides.
So now they sit to see the day run down
For this the sum of all life now found,
Are these now tears for the journey there?
