Success Poem by Aidan Clevinger

Success

Well, you did it, here you are,
That place you wanted to be.
You've got the meaning way down deep,
You're doing well, from what I see.

The camera bulbs, the flashing lights,
The roar of endless noise.
The exclamations of adoration,
'What grace! What charm! What poise! '

We watch you on the TV screen,
With smiles grown half-forgetful,
With memories of that little girl,
Our friend so kind and fretful.

None of us knew how successful you'd be,
And what success you've found!
Forsaking the ones who always loved you,
For wolves who sniff and hound.

You've got the clothes to dress the part,
The hyenas that laugh on demand,
You've got the red carpet rolled out and ready,
The clowns who scramble at your commands.

I suppose that now you've got it all,
Your stage holds the perfect cast.
But I suppose as well that it's not for me,
If that's success, I think I'll pass.
