Stretched Poem by Pondering Portrait

Stretched

A sinking heaviness
Weighing on strings of sanity
Stretching them, tighter and tighter
Inevitably dreading
That unanticipated moment...

Having embraced it
Welcoming it into the heart
That I watchfully sheltered
But betrayed
By a pure intention, again

Overwhelmed
Driving a creeping fear
Crawling away from hindsight
And amidst shadow
Tightly gripping and chocking

Paralyzing all conscious thought
To a screeching halt
Greedily smothering them
In a muffled silence
That I fail to understand

Drenched in confusion
Poisoned by curiosity
Quenching my mind
But polluting it
Beyond my chosen state
