Stretch Marks To Stretch These Hearts Apart Poem by Audrey Stephenson

Stretch Marks To Stretch These Hearts Apart

Stretch marks to stretch these hearts apart
Peeling away any bit of solace that may or may not be laying underneath the stars of your skin
Wrapped in your bitterness that's too scared to be right
To retreat from the corners of your frightened limbs
All bumpy and shot worn cold from the medicine you so rightly administer
Accordingly
Ripping to shreds the places where there were still holes in the wall
And you're still alone throwing and thrusting and drinking and there most definitely must be a way
Out
And you imagine of what it looks like
Maybe one day I will drag you out

I love you
And I just don't know why
