Sos Poem by Seiji Lushai

Sos

it kind of occurred to her that happiness
is nothing but a state of being happy.

the tocsin had been tolling for more than
twenty minutes to midnight, as the
conclave that had been proposed earlier,
was about to see its maturity. certain
young man sneaked out of their respective home,
as if they were crooks that reaves.
trying to have a little fun and chill
amidst the monsoon showers that
had been reigning in their atmosphere.
'tears of joy and excitement has showers us' said the lad with a white cap,
there was optimism in each and everyone's thought.

at one corner, a woman was sleeping
wide awake on her bad. thinking what had been going wrong,
in the mind of her begotten soul
which was the diamond and pearl,
the sun colored beauty, a promise of their love, whom she had tied the knot with.
but he was sleeping and snoring,
not knowing the aftermath of his climax,
was no more under his tutelage.

in the still of the night, at one shed
a boisterous young men's voice hollered,
they each had their share of anxiety,
but been calmed was them
when each pour of distilled water
blended with rye soothed their mouth
like a lullaby to a baby. One lad said,
'let me lit the herb! I love it more'
then the shed was redolent of
a strong fragrance that elated their mind.
everyone was in peace and tranquility
some even suggested to build a tabernacle,
that would perfectly fit for all their lost souls.
but one said as he pick up the disposable cup
pouring the last round of distilled rye,
which was one of their basic amenity,
'cheers to our sneak out squad'.

at half past two in the morning,
the woman prayed to whatever gods
she could think of. if there were ever one.
she'd been trying hard to rebuild her fortress,
amidst the rubble of her tumultuous life.
in the continuum of happy and worry,
she felt that she was in ambivalence,
like a beleaguered fortress -
to fall or to keep holding on.
so, in the morning, before breaking dawn,
while the roosters whispered in the dark,
she sent a prayer
'save our soul'.
