Sonnet: Some Better Halves! Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Some Better Halves!

I could not give things she longed for in life,
For I was not aware of her desires,
And found myself surrounded by much strife,
As dowsed became my heart’s and soul’s fires.

I was alone, all on my own therefore,
Though wedded, better-halved and living well,
As senescence came stealthily before
Some ailments struck me, moribund like hell!

Most times, a man is blind to woman’s needs,
And can’t decipher female heart’s longings,
Immersed in changing fate, as life misleads,
And delivers those subtle grave knockings!

’Tis tough discerning woman’s heart in full,
By which time, timid turns the fiercest bull!
