Sonnet: Artists Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: Artists

A lifeless bamboo-reed with holes few drilled;
And fingers deft those close or open them,
With air that’s blown by mouth to have it filled,
Producing music enthralling, ahem!

A piece of clay that’s molded by finesse,
And shaped in accordance to sculptor’s mind,
And worked into something that none can guess-
A magic feat that earthlings always find.

Few strokes by brush that spreads some hues across
A canvas specially prepared for it,
That finally lessens or adds more gloss,
Resulting in a painting that‘s a hit!

Our hearty tears of joy to artists skilled;
Our admiration to their works God-willed.

Thank you David for those lines that goad a poet's heart into a further period of inspiration. As you know, something formal and older is not much welcome in these modern times and so, I'm forced to strike a balance between the old and the new.Some of the variations are by compulsion.Rarely, they are 'by slip of the pen'.One has to be innovative and modify things in order to create variety in an area that is classical.

A very nice way to honor artists, Dr. Celes. I'm curious if your variations in the meter are intentional in certain places. Good to see some formal poetry amongst the ugliness of a post-modernist-heavy site.
