Sometimes my little voice says a lot
to you, and if you take the time to think
about my words, meditate on them, their meanings,
what I said, you'll better understand yourself
and me. (Yeah, 'what I said' I said.) 'It's just my
little voice', Sara sings, 'that I been missing.'
Yes, I was missing mine too for the longest time,
then I got older, braver, had more to say, felt compelled
to say it—true and honest things—these statements
in poetry started to say exactly what I wanted to say
without fear come hell or high water, yeah, Heid, come
hell or high water, places you'll never go, rivers, oceans
you'll never swim, yeah, places you'll never be in spirit,
heart and mind unless, yes, you muster some bravery.
