Something About A Beach....Or Something Poem by Alex Garr

Something About A Beach....Or Something

An orange disk kisses
The tip of the distant horizon, where
A plum and lapis lazuli sky, which
Stretches for miles in every direction, meets
The sparkling blue water of the ocean.
Gulls soar low over the water,
Rising on the waves of heat.
Their calls echo across the briny
Waves. I sit on my cotton beach towel
With my hand resting gently over hers.
She moves closer to
Rest her head on my bare shoulder.

I glance over at her
From the corner of my eye.
The sun striking her hair
Gives it the appearance of
Beaten copper fresh
From the forge.
The smell of it fills my nose:
A crackling fireplace as
Pine logs are thrown over the flames;
Wet leaves;
Roses blossoming in the spring;
Freshly mown grass.

She looks up at me.
Her eyes are perfect emerald spheres
Inset with small bits of onyx.
Her smile outshines the sun
As a glowing radiance seems to
Surround her.
Her honey skin,
Having been warmed for hours,
Feels softer than I would have believed.

Embraced in the arms of the other,
We watch the gulls rise with
Their catches between their beaks
And begin to make their way
Back to their children.
