Solace Of Prayer

She lies there with united palms
Gazing at a tumultuous future in a fog of napalms
Disfiguring the soul is the venomous pain
Unquenched of solace as springs of hope wane
She finds comfort in a pair of invisible arms
In a pacifying silence strewn with heavenly charms
Gazing at a cross seeping of torrents of blood
Searching for emancipation from melancholia’s flood
Life in the doldrums for savage is the deed of man
As torn to morsels was her life’s master plan
As scathing gossip grazed her natal heartland
Of a disciple of Sappho walking on serendipitous sand
As whispers scattered like smoke of a woman in a masquerade
Enshrined within a mask in life’s crowded parade
Now she kneels fronting an indomitable force
A mere morsel of her former self, a walking ghost
Seeking an earthly solace in the elixir of prayer
As she converges to a calming peace in God’s lair

Poem of the Day

poet Wilfred Owen

All sounds have been as music to my listening:
Pacific lamentations of slow bells,
The crunch of boots on blue snow rosy-glistening,
Shuffle of autumn leaves; and all farewells:
