So I'M Not Like You Poem by Melissa Broomhead

So I'M Not Like You

so im different than you does that make a difference in our friendship
so im different than you why does it matter
when i look at you i dont see black and white i see your smile
when i look at you i dont know what color you are i just see my friend
so im different than you does that mean we cant be friends
so im different than you does that mean one day we cant go out
what does it matter that im white and your black
what does it matter that my best friend isnt black or white but somthing in between
so im different than you that doesnt mean i cant talk to you
so im different than you is it realy all that bad
dont you know im the same person doesnt matter whats on the outside or the in
dont you know im the same person to me it doesnt matter that your spanish
so im different than you cant you see me beyond my skin
so im different than you now you cant be nice
i wish you could live life the way i do-hate free
i wish you could see why i dont hold a grudge on anyone of any color
raceism is a horrible thing this is for the many who deal with it everyday

Again, a great write! As one preacher put it, 'We're all made from the same dust.' lol. ~Divina

I live in South Africa, Im 'white' and know all too well that racism affects EVERYONE. In a very multi-cultural country, as mine is, it is vital to atleast TRY t understand the different people you encounter. SImple and very much to the point, I enjoyed your poem!
