Short Thought Poem by Terry Donovan

Short Thought

Rating: 4.5

I've just been out on one my walks
And was thinking about dandelion stalks!

When I was young they were always tall
These days they're very very small.

They used to be nine inches or more,
Now, the flowers are on the floor.

They're really clever. I'm surprised.
All on their own they've realised

That if they're up there tall and thin,
Along comes the mower - and Goodnight, Berlin!

But if they're right down low and small
The mower won't get them at all.

The blades are set for a certain height
And the dandelions are doing alright,

They still look nice, my favourite flower
And it's great they've learned to rule the hour!

If only poets would learn this lesson from dandelions, before the clocks blow away...
