She Was A Lily Poem by Afia Gyimah

She Was A Lily

Rating: 5.0

His words were so sweet that she didn't see the blood spilling from his mouth
He spoke so dearly that she didn't notice the sharpness of his teeth
He looked at her with so much adoration that she didn't see the desire behind his gaze
The roses he gave her were so beautiful that she didn't notice the thorns as they cut her fingers
His promises were so genuine that she didn't feel the blade sinking deeper into her back
His touch was so gentle that she didn't feel his fingertips slicing her skin
His embrace was so comforting that she didn't notice the chains slowly tightening around her body
His voice was so soothing that she didn't hear the growl beneath his words
She was just a lily, pure and delicate in bloom
He was a rose, concealing darkness in his perfume
She didn't realize the thorns of his desires piercing the petals of her hope
He met her when she was a lily and left her when her petals had fallen
When she was no more than a stem of what she used to be
When she could no longer give him what he wanted
In the field, he spotted another lily, hope shining so bright
He left her as she wilted, and moved on to his next sight

Metaphorical reality can be so sad. I enjoyed this poem
