Shame Poem by Zaffar Qureshi

Shame

Crawlers of the night,
seekers of alone,
we are those that hide,
in the flower,
in the rain,
but mostly in subdued places -
THE BED,
THE SHOWER,
THE CUPBOARD,
THE SHIRT,
THE DRESS,
THE PERFUME,
THE SKIN.
We are neither those,
that blossom in solitude,
nor those that bloom among friends,
we are the eternal wilt,
the slow rot,
to us belongs nothing,
and if the sun shines too bright on us,
we hide our faces in shame.
