See You In A Fortnight! Poem by Kondwani Simwaba

See You In A Fortnight!

See you in a fortnight!
Before he leaves, he looks in her eyes and promises her forever; she smiles with teary eyes and says, "I will wait for you."
He hugs her tighter than his belt ever does him, a kiss on her forehead and a whisper in her ears "I Love you, " she chuckles in return.
Time freezes; the sun stands still with not a cloud in sight, dusk is fast approaching infact.

He turns to leave, she stays to weep.
There's an uncanny feeling that's causing her to grieve, he feels lost down deep but this must be done as they both creep into the shadows wherein fate awaits.

Seconds turn to minutes and minutes to hours, days turn to nights and nights into a fortnight; under the willow tree as promised glowing from a fully beaming moonlight, a beautiful curvey silhouette stands with the patience of a predator to its prey; alas! She turns to meet her knight in shinning armor, aghast! Her face is filled with terror, her eyes in disbelief as this knight wobbles to her with blood oozing profusely from his tummy all the while he whispers "I Love You" these words fading like the end of a song.

Time freezes; the moon stands still with not a star in sight, dawn is fast approaching infact.
"Help, Help, Help! " She screams, "awww! My poor Rènato, who did this to you? " She adds, "Help, Help, Help! " She cries on, "Who did this to you Rènato? " His eyes are heavy as the eyelids slowly close in; a tear or two drips from his left eye, his life is slowly fading away saying who did it might just be his last breath; he looks in her eyes and promises her forever, she smiles with teary eyes and says, "I will wait for you" he's caught in a dilemma to say who the killer is or to tell her he loves her one more time as he opens his mouth to say something, a loud thud is heard followed by a tap or two her bedroom door opens; she had been dreaming again, but somehow she is happy it was but a dream atleast her dear Rènato is still alive sadly she will never know who wanted to harm him and he'll never know about her because he never existed from the start and this is the power of imagination...
