See What I Have Become Poem by Yewande Adedokun

See What I Have Become

From the gentle into the wild
From the light into the light I say not the dark
My weakness that please you now my strength
Before you hear my voice, I replace with silence
Trade comfort for discomfort
Peace for the other type of peace
People die, I don't even cry
They rejoice and I want to wear black
You say I am nothing
I retain my shadow, I beg you not to follow
My memory of me will never fade,
In me I look to replace
I will show you what you want to see
I will say what you want to hear
I will do as you please
But I beg you not to sleep on me
For, when you wish to sleep,
I will pull the seat
You wish a slumber
I wish you no such peace
When all my evil is done Still I will not speak what you did wrong
Before you know me, now see what I have become.
