See Me Poem by Leslie Alexis

See Me

I wish you could see what I see.

See me, for the me in me:
Not the temporary embodiment of me.

Not the nose,
Or face,
Eyes,
Lips,
Skin,
Or rotting flesh.

See me as a spirit:
Never changing
Never dying
Always perfecting -
Always loving you.

See me for the love:
Not for the things love makes me willing to do,
Never see me for the things love makes me willing to give.

See the tears,
And the laughter.
See my fright-
and know that I too fear -
I too hurt.

Maybe then you will see me.

See me for the me in me
Not the temporary embodiment of me.
