Savour It Soon! Poem by Rishi Kaashyap

Savour It Soon!

Years ago,
I dug my ground
Placed a plant,
With turfy leaves…
A mango tree,
I found it to be

I watered it daily
Sang to it quite often
Talked to it a lot
And helped it grow…

Years passed,
It kept growing
And I,
Old and admiring

The stem thickened
Bark darkened.
Branches diverged
New leaves emerged
But after years of caring
Singing and watering
No flowers
On it bloomed.
People kept me questioning,
But never I became worrying.
For still I believed
That my faithful tree
Would bear fruit
To aid my weakening

For one summer morning,
I found it bloomed!
I beamed with pride
And jumped with merry.

I watered it,
Two barrels more
To nourish my
Young tree.

Late in summer
Flowers withered
Expecting fruits
I still watered more.
For the very first time,
I saw green buds,
Replacing the flowers.
With more delight
I watered more.

Alas, nothing remained
Except a fat big fruit
It was quite small
So I let it grow.

With more barrels of water
And songs and manures
I expected more…
The fruit enlarged,
But I still thought
It had to grow.

The fruit enlarged
A bit bigger now
I still thought
It had to grow.

Days after it,
It no more grew

But still believed
And waited…

One fine day,
I woke up a bit late
Determined to eat,
Eat the fruit.
With my mouth
Watering
I rushed to the tree…
To my amazement,
I found the stalk…
With dripping sap.

A convict had just
Stolen it!
I sat…
Totally upset…
'If I had eaten
It yesterday…
It would have been mine…
MINE ALONE! '
Then I learned…
Everything doesn't wait for us…
Savour it soon!
Savour it soon.
