Run With Me Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Run With Me

Break free of your bridle.
Leap over the fence.
Get your legs underneath you
And gallop!

Follow me!
Up this slope!
Feel your heart pound.
Feel your lungs burn.
Keep up!

Stop thinking.
Stop second-guessing me.
Stop mentally mapping your own route.
Run full out!

Listen to instinct.
Feel the slate slipping beneath your feet.
Don't fight it.
Find your balance
And flow.

Can you feel it?
The release of energy
The surge of assurance
The dawning of awareness
The bliss?

Charge flat out with me over this plain.
Let your tail flutter
Let your back legs kick up dust
Feel what it means to be feral.

And then, if you must, return to your warm safe stable.
I intend to make for higher grounds tonight
I would love someone to trot by my side in the moonlight
So which will it be, me or that brood mare back in the barn?
