Rubber Bands Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Rubber Bands

Rating: 5.0

The tenacity and elasticity of a rubber band
Enables flexibility…it has abilities that are grand
Within its capacity it can hold or gleefully expand
It conforms to a plan… it is at your command

Endurance is an admirable trait that it maintains
Wrapped around a bundle of stray pencils it retains
Strategically attached… it propels a lightweight plane
Looped together with others … it forms a long chain

Stretched around a shoebox it is a musical creation
Worn as a bracelet it is a unique wrist decoration
Holding broken parts as glue dries…it thwarts ruination
Aimed with a paper wad… it seeks a hurtful destination

Many wrapped together form a ball bouncing on the ground
A rolled scroll stays secure and unreadable while it is bound
The possibilities are expanding…endless uses are unbound
After being stretched in length… its original shape is found

This simple unassuming thing is an object of valuable discovery
Intentions sway ultimate choice and determine utilization of ability
We are much like rubber bands… seeking a purposeful decree
We can restrain or proclaim… harm or enhance by varying degrees

A very clever poem, indeed. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I guess I'd never really thought about the multitudinous uses for this common item. Thanks Richard
