Rootless Flower Poem by Cigeng Zhang

Rootless Flower

Rating: 3.5

You are a rootless flower
When wind turns calmer
You are more in full bloom
You are straying petals
When wind becomes a roarer
You open bigger and freer
You have no fragrance
But make an eye illusory

Great title. Your command of the language is economical, yet lovely still.

This poem itself looks like a beautiful flower, with its root in Cigeng Zhang.

Despite being rootless, this flower proves to be quite sturdy. For millions of years the only color of foliage on earth was green. Then suddenly - in geologic time! - flowers brought color everywhere. Why? scientists wonder. Why did the earth flower with color? We poets with our FAITH IN BEAUTY know that the imperative to create beauty is reason enough. And your flower, steadfastly displaying its beauty in petals, colors and fragrances, is a simple, compelling example of the instinct within our planet to make beauty.
