I watch the rise and fall
Of your thin chest.
I notice tremors which
Disturb your rest.
Sleep Dad now night has come.
Let it descend...
Cover you with it’s peace,
And let it mend
Dreams that you once believed
When you were young,
When you began your climb
On that first rung.
All was before you then.
Life was so new.
Now time has taken all,
Turned all askew.
Will you remember me
When you arise?
Will I see that blank stare
There in your eyes?
For you’ve become the child.
I watch you sleep,
Here in your room at night
I quietly weep.
