Revival Poem by Juan Olivarez

Revival

They put up a tent, by the railroad tracks,
They hung lectric lights all around,
They said they was bringing Jesus back,
As they pounded stakes into the ground.

They filled up the tent with folding seats,
They put up a podium and a mike.
Preacher spoke of sin, and miraculous feats,
Saying no to the Devil, and all of the like.

Then a band started playing, not well but loud,
And they all started dancing, jumping up and down.
Screaming and shouting, a real rowdy crowd,
Then they would pass out, right there on the ground.

Women were the ones that passed out the most,
The men stood around, looking up through their legs,
They looked more like the Devil, than The Holy Ghost,
Then Pepe and me got our rotten eggs.

Pepe beaned the preacher, right in the face,
And he started gagging all over the band.
Other well placed missiles emptied the place,
The stink permeated all around the band stand.

Pepe and I ran to the grove,
Watching the happenings from the dark.
Our hearts were filled with Godly love,
As we egged the preachers Cadillac in the park.
