Rest Easy Poem by Emily Thom

Rest Easy

A young child with no desire but her mothers touch
The lost memory of her life of pure innocence
Smiling faces she sees, though simple days of endearing have long to be forgotten
She grew through the years with no understanding, no cares, no doubts,
Though one day she finally awakened the brink of her necessity
Within days of waiting and no attention for anything else,
She found answers that could alter her life
Slicing of flesh, loss of warm milk, gift of certain desires being ripped apart
Scars to show till the sad death of someone special,
And the stinging pinch to determine her days to come
Is this real, is this my fate, has my decision been faulted?
Will my tearful pains of yesterday be my struggles for tomorrow?
Or will they fade away like shadows in the darkness

A woman amongst the many having few unknown thoughts,
Her constant shame hiding within the perception of others
A young lady living in her mother's past, is able to read stories to generations
As she walks in the footsteps of a life she once heard about,
The realization of days lengthened due to declarations amongst the doubts
Beloved mother's life was interfered with cancer, however the legacy goes to the living
She imagines a seed of her own surviving the cold black doldrums,
Although to remember that all who lives are those who are self aware
Rest easy dear mother for I am safe
May your memory be carried through all that is unfortunate
