Renewal Poem by Severien Meyer

Renewal

Renewal
(By: Sev Meyer) 1999

Lovely, are the reflected trees,
in the mirror-like lake
below the craggy mount.

Calming, are the gentle breezes
rustling the leather leaves
of the lowly Cottonwood
by the ancient stream.

Inspiring, are the poet’s words,
opening mental pathways
all too seldom trod.

And in the midst
of the mellow peace
framing earth and mind,
needless drivel pummels
eye and ear.

The marketplace bustles
with the opulence
of overblown hype.

With jangled nerves
I must retreat;
away, waking world!
Into mind’s most calming depths
I let myself be hurled...

Only to emerge again
topside, near the rail;
jutting jaw against the wind
of this life’s thrumming hail.
