Reflection Poem by Richard Betts

Reflection

It took me a long time to figure it out, but - after quite a bit of consideration - it finally came to me.

Much of what we do and say and think and feel reveals not what we think about others, but instead offers some insight into what we think of ourselves.

So when you speak and your talk is full of insinuations and innuendo, I see it as a showcase into your own insecurities and vulnerabilities.

When you ridicule us with your judgmental speculations, I have come to understand that your inability to offer a kind word comes not as an insult but as a reflection.

It is an indication of your own lack of strength and spirit; your own lack of kindness and generosity.

Like looking in a mirror, it is a reflection of your own lack of self respect, self esteem and self love.
