Reef Of Wonder Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Reef Of Wonder

Rating: 5.0

Slipping across the reef teaming life
Hard corals filtering plankton
Hermits taking cover
Small flashing slivers of light hiding
Deep within the corals protective cloak
Sounds of a distant whale travelling
Calling its eerie echoes
Sleek torpedoes so elegant
Silver gliders of the sea
Inquisitively checking
Searching for food
Pass in their shoals
Heads of morays watching
Alert for a meal and danger
Swiftly withdrawing into the crevices
Teeth bared in mock attack
Jellyfish pulsating
Born by the current passing by
A lonely yellow seahorse, anchored
Gently bobbing in the thermo climb
Inquisitive eyes everywhere
Hiding from this blue apparition
Huge fins causing a backwash
As slowly it passes, bubbles expelled
When the danger has passed life resumes
The reef goes back to its normality
Protector of the weak, yet the table of nutrition
