Red Tulips Poem by Mohammad Younus

Red Tulips

In my childhood there would grow...
Red tulips on the rooftops of our houses;
Gone are those good olden days!
No tulip gardens are now on our roofs;
Times have now totally changed!
Red tulips will now grow everywhere...
In our gardens where we have sown...
Martyrs like the tulip bulbs;
In the gardens of the dead,
I hear an emotive sound...
Coming from the depths of martyrs' graves;
Do they sing in symphony to inflame me...
To remind me that they have died to...
...secure my generation?
Yes, their song makes the sweetest harmony...
to assure me that one day martyrs...
... will grow as red tulips;
Will I live for that spring season...
...when I will kiss the Red tulips?
