Proud And Brave Poem by Francis Duggan

Proud And Brave

Rating: 1.0

I'm not ashamed of my heritage though of it i am not proud
And i never wave a National flag when in a football crowd
The praises of those we see as heroes we very well may sing
But too much of patriotism is not a healthy thing
The old bloke he said to me you are one who lacks in pride
You never honour people who for their Country fought or died
People like me who fought in wars fought for the likes of you
My only answer to him was your truth to me is not true,
Dressed in the National colours the old bloke bent and gray
Was off to watch the test match to watch the Nation's cricketers play
By fighting for his Country he thinks he fought for me
We look at life through different eyes that's how it seems to be
As he was going to watch the cricket the National flag he did wave
He may not be the wisest but he still seems proud and brave.
