Prophecy Poem by Akinmuleya Alfred

Prophecy

PROPHECY
Boyos!
'How long shall those tears
Keep running down your beautiful face? '
I've got these to tell you

Son,
They will come for you
They will need your hands
Son
They will come in new attires
New shoes
New and painted faces
Shining names
Refined old-self
New agbada
New babariga
New fila
New Kampala
And new lies

Son,
They will come for you
First for your head then for your finger
They will give you *akara* to make you smile
They will receive laughter from you instead
They will tell you in English language:
'I shall increase your chance of getting to heaven'
'I shall give you the antidote for death'
They will add to the mansions they built for you behind the sky
They will vociferate on you fragrant names
They will regale you with confection of words
They will cause you to grow potbelly with hoax sumptuous troth
They will bring you incentives and and foul stimulus
Kerosene and palm oil
Vegetable oil and clothes
Rice and beans in bags
They will call you 'GOOD PEOPLE'
They will bring new words, new learnt incantations and new promises
They will appear in bulk and oppose one another
They will struggle to talk to you and be glad you listen again
They will call you names

You will welcome them like before
You will be teased to do so
You will be preached to and brainwashed
You will listen to their announcement
You will be KIND again
You will be the 'GOOD BOY' again
You will proclaim their name with enthusiasm
You will queue for what they bring
You will fight your friend to hear them speak
You will fight for your own portion of the peanuts
You will be happy, appreciate their voices
You will queue to ink their cartridges
You will rejoice if they succeed

Then I your mother,
Will be hurted, raped, deprived, mocked, injured, wounded, bullied,
Insulted, violated, jilted, fouled, booed, kicked, criticized
And jilted, and I in my cubicle portion beneath the earth
Will speak of your stupidity and your foolishness
To the maggots
Because......
You will remain like this again
