Promises Poem by ANJALI KAKATI

Promises

Rating: 2.9

You promised me the sky
You took me high
And just
when I had started to fly
you vanished
letting me fall freely
wounding the wings of my soul
I might never ever fly
Why did you
promise me the sky
When all you could do was
to leave me to die?

You promised me the sea
You took me deep
And just
When I had started to swim
You left
Letting me drown in the depths
and with me my faith and hopes.
I might never ever rise again
Why did you
promise me the sea
when all you could do was
to leave me to gasp,
never to rise?

Why did you
promise me the sea?
Why did you
promise me the sky?
