Priorities Poem by Ibn Ali

Priorities

So many times in life I prioritised things that weren't important
And even though I was losing the fight
I still fought it
Fixated on the destination ahead and missed the journey
Nothing sought in life is far from me if reached for
Set goals knowing if I keep shooting I will score
Why are all delicate things expensive, demand more
The cheap things we disregard most resistant, but ignored
Who reserves the right to define values that give worth
Old pains feel young, healed wounds still hurt
All my demons enthused, dedicated and still lurk
My Marli is someone else's, he is what she deserves
My worries are never ending, they're bad and getting worse
I keep getting taught the same lesson, I never learn
Some traits are inherent and noble, a rite from birth
Still, some fools take pride in virtues they never earn
Loved are you by I, nothing precedes the verb
The act equates the worth
The spend demands return
