Pretty Little Reminders Poem by Winsy Tink

Pretty Little Reminders

Rating: 2.1

[A silly girl's first romance.]

The sun-blessed lawn grown of daisies and ferns,
Our footprints on the grass;
Skipping through the park, hand in hand -
Next stop - make it Neverland.

A warm summer's day reminds me of you -
Of you, in your bright yellow Adidas shoes;
Of pretty little things that used to be,
But are now
no more.

Library visits were once my daily thrill -
I walked in accelerated pace;
And I'd find you in your designated corner
every morning without change.

In childish anticipation, I danced
my way to the giant Christmas tree -
Good old Santa always left for me
what I most wanted.

When at night the clock strikes half-nine -
That once most blissful hour -
When home from school I go, I look
on King's Cross with a different eye.

Authentic, eccentric, the odd-man-out,
Your randomness intrigued me some:
Pink floral-patterned belt, spearmint chewing gum,
Pucca wallet, Haribo candy hearts -

These are the things that remind me of you,
Of you, in your bright yellow Adidas shoes;
Of the silly girl that I was back then,
But am now
no more.
