Plan B Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Plan B

Rating: 5.0

Outside the rain
listens

to the soft splutter
of a paint roller

moving slushily
from tray to wall
wall to tray

turning the world
to a bright baby pink

for what will be
our nursery.

This for today
is: Plan A.

The longed for baby
now merely
a twinkle
in my eye.

We get on
with the business of today.

Somehow
your roller
(don’t - ask me how)
misses the wall

& my face
blushes a bright
baby pink.

Of course…two
can play at this
game that
escalates
into all out war.

It is like a bomb
hit the room!

Covered in laughter
we descend into a painting
frenzy!

Soon, all too soon
all thought
of the nursery to be
is: forgotten

as we
get back to basics

& resort to:
Plan B

making baby

baby making.
