Pity The Kitty Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Pity The Kitty

I woke up one night sneezing and it simply would not stop.
It happened every four or five seconds, my that is a lot of snot!
I was air bussed to the Capital, to the hospital Walter Reed.
Admitted to the Officers wing, with a General in the room with me.

The General asked many questions, all answered with a sneeze.
On the next day came those needles, about 600 I believe!
The results did not come quickly, as they monitored my heart.
I was there for many days, but I finally did depart.

I finally received my answer, I was allergic to my daughter’s cat.
They put me on light duty, the desk job made me fat!
It is no simple allergy, as I go into anaphylactic shock.
My lungs shut closed with fluids, then I’m a drowning jock!

My little girl was told that Misty, her Kitty just had to go,
I cried along right with her, and our hearts sunk oh so low.
Today she owns a kitty, so I can’t enter her front door.
My sister Teri has six cats, and sis Debbie has twenty four!

If it was just a dogs world, I could visit friends and relatives.
Even cat dander on someone’s clothes, I must leave if I’m to live!
The cats now in my neighborhood, to their owners will not run.
They run with glee when they see me, as if I had bid them “come! ”

When I open up my front door, be it daytime or late at night,
I hear a chorus of Meow’s, then I simply must take flight.
I don’t see my attraction, for there is nothing I know I do,
Except of course I’m very good, at making a loud - Ah ah ah-Choooo!
