Petrichor Poem by Aya Poetess

Petrichor

In the vast veld she prances

Petrichor swathes

Gazelle in a languid dance

It has been a long time since I had to look up the meaning to a word- -and what a cool word you have gifted to us here. petrichor - a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather. WoW! ! ! That word adds so much sensory input! ! ! ! Great choice! ! With haikus we need to make excellent word choices to communicate the imagery of nature! Great job! ! !

Thank you, Susan. Petrichor has been my favorite word for a while. Perhaps it's because how beautiful it sounds, or perhaps it's because of my homesickness. Petrichor takes me to a trip down memory lane. We prayed for rain to cool our sweaty skin, for a good harvest, and for puddles to sail our paper boats during my childhood days.
