Perplexity Poem by Rituparna Choudhury

Perplexity

The smell of incense sticks
Fills up my room
As I sit in a corner
In tears and gloom…

The smell floats in the air
And reaches my nose
It seems to be very familiar
No wonder, it’s of a rose…

I breathe in deeply
And feel a little better
As I hear the cracking thunderstorms
And raindrops falling pitter-patter…

It has been a year
Since that terrible day
When I had lost my identity
And my own way…

I recall how it
All took place
As I sit numb and dumb
With a sad face…

Now as I sit
I look out to the sky
It too bears pain like me
Because like me, it too cries…

I close my eyes slowly
And think hard for a while
Why do I feel so uneasy
Just to give a smile? ...

The rain has stopped
And the sky is set to be clear
I try to console myself
As I wipe off my tears…

My heart sinks
As the sun is about to set
My lips all dry
And my eyes so wet…

I am bounded by solitude
And darkness envelopes me
There is not a sign of hope
As far as I can see…

My life was never
Like this before
It was like a pleasant weather
Like that of sunny seashore…

Night’s soon going to fall
The bats have began to scream
I feel like getting nowhere
My life has shattered my dreams…
