Period. (Menstrual Cycle) Poem by Christina Simmons

Period. (Menstrual Cycle)

I'm bleeding! It's a time for purifying my inner being
To celebrate the fact I'm a woman. It's very natural.
It's nature's way of saying I'm a free spirit meant to run wild
Occurs every month, lasting for 3,4 or 5 days sometimes 6
Please let me know you'll still be available on my return

Touch anyone of my cubs inappropriately hear me roar and scratch
Like a lioness: instead of calling me a screaming siren - an ugly banshee, harlot and a witch too. Rebuking as though the CHILDREN gets in the way of OUR PRIVATE time....sordidness? ? ?
Sometimes you choose to ignore when it's upon me
Don't do the dirty. - Cheat. Don't runaway PROTECT!
Appreciate, treasure like you would a kitten

It's a time I really must cherished and nourished myself
Definitely not abused!
During that occasion no one comes near
No vices please!
It's for sacred intentions only!
Worship, carry me along; Safe guard me cause you're a man.
My other half! Treat me like you would diamonds and pearls
Like a gentle lamb: stroke praise and simply idealise me

Place me on a pedestal, let me be at one with womanhood
Be grounded with mother nature cause that's who I am
Make no mistake I'm coming to know myself

Allowing me to be in tune with my soul
I'm aware you like it, you're fascinated by it
In my haste to please you and satisfy my lustfulness
I too forget what it stands for
What it means during that interval
just honour and respect my privacy
It's all about Me Time! Special moments with myself
I'm not being selfish, or shutting you out...
I need to replenished myself and this is the time to do so
without any interruptions or inquisitiveness from you
Learn to appreciate and understand my uniqueness

I'm away from your presence for a brief moment
know I'll be back. I'll be back;
allow me that space and freedom to my own concurrences
It only comes around once a monthly cycle.
Tolerate my female intuition of instinctively
knowing what's best for us both
The right path to follow - just be patient and wait
It's only for a short while then I'm yours
for the rest of time.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Revisiting the menstrual cycle, seeing it as a form of Re - cleansing.
Rather than a time to dread and fret about. It's not a hindrance we have it for a purpose.
