Perfect Poem by R. L. Allen

Perfect

you could have been perfect

could have been perfect
for me
you know

with your tall, dark figure
looming secretly over me in the darkness

whispering in my ear that
we could never be together

because

i'm not the right girl and
you're not the right guy

but how would you
know

how could you
know
what you
truly
want?

we are far too young for that.

and i hate to fight with such a
pretty face and

tethered soul,

but you just can't speak to me
won't let you treat me like that

like i'm some frivolous fantasy in your
mind.

then you throw the blame
upon me like striking an
angry match to a heap of
dry, ancient driftwood

and all i can do is sigh

because

you said that

i'm not the right girl and
you're not the right guy
