Pepertual Flame Poem by Francis Kokutse

Pepertual Flame

We have cried till our tear ducts bleed,
We have looked and not found;
Yet we soldiered on hoping
Until it happened where we all did not noticed.

The gold band had hidden the flame
that would have led me on to the prize
that we have both longed for.

Suddenly, the cover was taken out
and what seemed darkness became
light only for the two of us to see.

I could see the Pepertual light,
set ablaze on a Saturday in Keta and
carried all the way round the world
till it was my turn to hold the torch
that would become my prize
and this l pledge to keep for ever.
