Peak Poem by Cameron Gallant

Peak

When the day is fresh and sun is new
When the mosses drip with morning dew
When the crystal webs of spiders shine
And symbolize a dawning time

When the sky above is always blue
When the birds’ songs sung sound a ways more true
When the air smells good and is calm and clean
And waters splash in mountain streams

When the sun is hotter on the back
When there are no people brewed with tact
When the animals seem more at ease
Aromas nice infuse the breeze

When everyone helps and is helped
When gratefulness is a dab more felt
When trivial fears have gone away
And harkened to children at play

When the view is far and land is green
When awe’s induced—the place of dreams
When nature’s nature and to man’s appease
That’s when you know you’re on the peak
