Peace On The Wear Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Peace On The Wear

A northern breeze changed to a wildest storm
That swept o'er the hills and the heather
There were rainclouds on high
In the Tyne and Wear sky
We were lost but love kept us together.

Darkness soon spread, our vision was blurred
The day seemed to turn into night
But as you clung to me
The church light I could see
Where I was your sweet bride in white.

The raging gale passed, the peace was so dear
And heather glowed purple again
The sun brightly shone
And the nightmare had gone
Gone too had the thunder and rain.

We walked by the graveyard we knew so well
Through the church door which led to the Altar
And we fell down to pray
To give thanks for the day
When our faith and our trust did not falter.
